The Lucky W Ranch is dedicated to producing and training quality quarter horses and paint horses that have athletic ability, competitive spirit and personality. O'Rear Farm offers great horse training and horseshoeing. We train any breed of horse but we specialize in Appaloosas and POA's. We train horses with natural horsemanship. We are located right out side Sturgis, Michigan a quiet little area we call Sherman Mill. This is only a back yard rescue, we do not get state funding, so all the cost is out of pocket. But believe me when I tell you its money well spent!

My training techniques are based on five body control "buttons" that will help you get and maintain complete body control of your horse at all times. You've heard the expression, "Be one with your horse." Well, this is how you get started! Not to mention, it is how your HORSE gets started too. Horses are not born just knowing what it is we want from them and then just do it. We have to teach them. Anyone and ANY HORSE can easily learn to have ULTIMATE BODY CONTROL.

Collection, bending, flexing, body control, softness and consistency are vital in my program and are worked on daily. I will teach your horse to respond to your cues with minimal resistance which always brings out that "I want to" attitude. I have a firm but gentle nature about my training and understand that respect is essential in training horses. And, I mean that from both sides. The trainer must respect the horse in order to obtain respect from the horse and vise versa. I will not tell you that I NEVER discipline a horse. I see my horses as I see my children and treat them very similarly. Horses, like people, all have different personalities and what works on one horse, may not work on another. So there are many "tricks" up my sleeve. All of which resort to body manipulation, give-and-take, and occasionally discipline. There are times that a horse needs discipline, however, it is vital that you know what is required and when.

A horses' motion can be easily manipulated by your body language. The same applies to riding/training of the horse. A horse, as you know, cannot speak and tell you that he doesn't understand, or that he is confused. Therefore you must be able to interpret his body language and likewise, he must be able to interpret yours. Once you establish that communication and understanding, there are no limits to what you can teach your horse!

He won’t trailer, he will not allow his head to be touched, he freaks when he see a lunge whip, he won’t let you touch his ears, he kicks if you touch his feet, he rears if you try to lead him, he will only allow you to lead him from one side, and on and on it goes. Problems. When I work with problems I work with the behavior, not what may have caused the behavior. Too many times I have heard quick judgment as to the cause of the head shyness (or any of the other problems) being attributed to mistreatment of the horse in the past by someone.

Unless you have witnessed, or know someone you trust who has witnessed the mistreatment you just do not know. All you know is the unacceptable behavior, and to work with the behavior you do not need to know why the horse is behaving that way, and you cannot do anything about what has happened in the past anyway. So, I disregard the past, and each day is a new day for the horse and me.

We'll talk over your horse's "problem(s)", and then form a plan to overcome them. This plan will involve training for the horse, but may also include training time for you along with your horse.

I will help you separate the unwanted response of the horse, that you see as "the problem", from the real problem. Helping you to see the unwanted response as only a symptom of the real problem. Then help you and your horse deal with the underlying problem and watch the unwanted response(s) disappear.

Dusty Bottoms Farm is a family friendly barn located in (enter location later). We were founded in 2001 by Delane Peery who started training horses and giving lessons at a small barn in Morgan Texas, her methods were gentle and easy to understand for both horse and rider. Unfortunately Delane was in a horrible accident in November 2005 and can no longer train and give lessons. So the reins were handed over to her Granddaughter Tiffany Sims who is following Delane’s footsteps well. Home of a Rare gaited silver dapple Morgan stallion! Gaits and trots both for producing foals for any discipline. Foaled in 2004, Silver will be standing to limited approved mares.

Silver (sometimes called silver dapple; in the Rocky Mountain breed it is called "chocolate") is a dilution gene that only affects black hair. It does not "show" on chestnuts, since they do not have black hair to be diluted by the gene, but silver can be passed on by those chestnuts who carry silver. The silver gene dilutes any black hair on the horse to shades of chocolate through slate gray, sometimes with dappling, and has an added lightening effect on the mane and tail, turning them silvery gray, straw colored, or even platinum. Because silver is a dominant gene, all silvers have at least one silver (or a chestnut that is carrying the silver gene) parent.

The silver dapple gene can now be tested for. The 2006 Uppsala University (Sweden) study can be downloaded here in PDF format. Four silver dapple Morgans were a part of this study, and the bay silver Morgan colt Unconventional and the chestnut (carrying silver) Morgan mare Amanda's Suzy Q are pictured in it. There is one known source of the silver dapple gene in Morgans, Dan, a chestnut (carrying silver dapple) son of Headlight Morgan, who was foaled in 1916. However, there are many descendants of Dan who did not inherit his silver dapple gene. There are two lines descended from Dan that are known to be silver and they come from the 1966 chestnut (carrying silver) stallion, Topside Jolly Roger, and the 1975 chestnut (carrying silver) stallion, Crimson Jack. Topside Jolly Roger's color line comes down to us in horses from his silver dapple son, Pegasus Persuader; Crimson Jack's silver dapple descendants, fewer in number, come from his chestnut (carrying silver) granddaughter Amanda's Suzie Q.

Located about two hours north-east of Toronto, in the heart of the Kawartha Lakes region, is Rocky Mountain Farm. This 140 acre farm has been home to the Rocky Mountain and Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse breeds for over 10 years and home to their breeder and trainer, Colleen Wood. The farm has access to miles of scenic trails for pleasure riding and training here and on neighboring property. Lightly traveled country roads are available and we’re only minutes from the Victoria Rail Trail that leads north to Kinmount or south to Fenelon Falls.

Each spring the new foals arrive. There's usually between eight to twelve babies, depending on the year, about half of which will be sold as weanlings. The balance are kept and trained under saddle, generally being offered for sale as three year-olds. The Rocky Mountain Horse is very hardy. They foal on pasture and live outside all year, except during their weaning. They are fed outside in winter from round bale feeders and very seldom make use of the run in barn available to them, even in a driving snow storm with temperatures around zero. All the horses are sold on a 30 day money back guarantee (we've never had one back) and their vision status is guaranteed. We have a select few mares with quality foals every spring. Bloodlines such as Dock, Clemon’s Tim, Sewell’s Sam and Goldfinger are prized for the old Mountain Horse conformation and temperament. Come on in and take a look at what we have to offer. Our breeding program focuses on size, strength, versatility, and stamina to create a horse that can win money in the show ring, but still be useful on the ranch. Quality is very important to us and our standards are very high for all our horses.

Our mares have all been hand picked and selected based on their conformation, bloodlines, athleticism, and sound quiet minds. We think that the mare is just as important as the stud. They contribute 50% of the genes that make up the foals for todays ranches and tomorrows winner circle.

Because we work with our foals frequently and they are constantly learning and evolving the prices on them are subject to change without notice. We can deliver for a rate of $1.75 a loaded mile.

Our bloodlines include Sid's Good Stallion, The Rose line, Lion King, Gypsy King, Latcho Drom and Legend Boy. 2010 foals are available for pre purchase. We have cams in the pasture and paddock areas as well as those in the foaling stalls. Our outside cams are on year round.

Horse Training

We have been training horses for several years using our own techniques as well as professional techniques. Training includes, but not limited to ground work, spook, saddle breaking, green breaking, finishing, loading, trail riding, etc. We have a wash rack, arena, and round pen on site. Training fee includes boarding, daily grooming, feed twice daily, deworming, training five days a week. Horse(s) stays on property during training, unless permitted by owner for the training of trail riding etc.

Around the first week in November, I emailed a lady about a horse.
This web page, as well as the rescue we formed because of him is dedicated to that horse and to all those who did not get saved.
His name is Falcon Fury, a large race horse, with a broken knee. Or you may call him Fury as his first family did.

Falcon was tossed aside to the auction at New Holland, found there by Diane and Anne, taken home and loved. Then sent to us here at Falcon's Refugee for Wayward
Horses, Inc.

We built this site under Falcons Haven for Horses. It will someday be the name of one of our barns.
Falcons Haven is a safe place for horses to get better, to rest, to retrain, retire, to find a new home, and last, not least to be LOVED.
We have talked a lot about the process of what happens with some of the horses with the current economy, we have come to one conclusion, we here will not pass judgement on anyone, we are here to help, a solution to the problem.
