What a day--- I came home to the barn at 6 to check on Phoenix, since she has been leaking for 3 days- and not due until the 12th.

So today all day i was thinking about her and drove there- not home and she saw me- and whinnied and i went to her and she immediately lost her water- and started contractions while standing. I called jeannie and said get out here. The foal was in and out and finally we ripped the bag, and helped her with each contraction until we had the foal in out arms and lay him on the ground. He was huge!!!!!!!!!!!

Phoenix immediately began licking as we were drying him and she was so good so very good. Milk was pouring out of her so I got 25 to 30 ccs and gave it to the foal and he got his sucking reflex going and got up and we brought him and mommy into the stall and he found his milk mommy and she licked jhim and kissed him forever. I called the vet- they came and examined the big baby and gave him his penicillin, gentamycin, and a bit of vite e and s- and I could not hold the colt due to my shoulder so the vet held the colt and i administered the shots lol.

enema was successful and the baby is wonderful. we are thrilled for janet his new owner and she will be up this week and pick out his name.
